I have just completed a project to raise awareness of self-confidence and ways to promote this within ourselves. I set myself the challenge of finding 30 ways to boost confidence and posted my thoughts and findings on YouTube. Although I did the challenge in 30 days, they weren’t always consecutive.
Below, you’ll see the top 6 tips for boosting confidence based on the number of views I got on all the videos. These videos are short clips to help you understand and maybe challenge old patterns of thinking and behaviours that maintain low confidence.
BUILDING CONFIDENCE
- Notice what you are thinking: The first step to change is noticing what is wrong and starting to observe how you talk to yourself and about what you do. Are you putting yourself down?
- Notice the unhelpful actions: What are the current habits that you do without thinking that keep you stuck feeling under-confident? Be aware without judgement.
- Notice how you compare yourself to others: When we are comparing ourselves with others, we forget that each person has different skills and abilities, and we are not all the same. Be aware of your uniqueness.
TOP 6 TIPS FOR CONFIDENCE
- Body Language: The way you hold yourself and use gestures can speak louder than the words you use. Stand tall, hold still, reduce fidgeting, and maintain eye contact are some of the ways to help show your confidence.
- Treat yourself as you would a friend: When your confidence is low or when you are afraid of failure or being judged, you may hold yourself back and not take on challenges or say yes to new things. This keeps us stuck believing that we won’t cope and feeling stagnant. Instead, talk to yourself as you would a friend and see the difference!
- Adaptable mindset: Share experiences and practice active listening. When we talk to others about how we are feeling or what we are trying to do, we realise that often others have the same thoughts and considerations as us. We learn that we are not alone and can find support from others.
- Setting goals: Setting goals can be helpful, but if we become too fixated on a target, we can lose sight of the process and the journey. Achieving the goal is not always the most important thing; learning and growing along the way is.
