Finding Your Purpose: Getting Comfortable with the Discomfort of Change

July 1, 2025by Carrie0

Change sounds exciting in theory. But in reality? It often feels terrifying.

Even when we know something isn’t working—whether it’s a job, a relationship, or just the way we speak to ourselves—it can feel easier to stay where we are. Familiar. Predictable. Safe.

But here’s the thing: safe doesn’t always mean right.

And if you’re feeling stuck, unfulfilled or quietly restless… that’s your inner wisdom tapping you on the shoulder, whispering:

There’s more for you.

Why is change so uncomfortable?

It’s not just you. Our brains are wired to resist change. The amygdala—the part of the brain that scans for danger—interprets uncertainty as a potential threat. That’s why even small steps forward can spark anxiety or self-doubt. It’s your brain’s way of trying to protect you, not sabotage you.

The powerful truth to remember:
Discomfort doesn’t always mean danger. Sometimes, it’s a sign that growth is happening.

Neuroscience shows us that repeated exposure to change, paired with safe support and emotional regulation, actually rewires the brain. We become more resilient, adaptable, and confident.

You can learn to get comfortable with the discomfort of growth.
You can train your brain to see the unknown not as a threat—but as a way forward.

Re-framing fear as fuel

What if that nervous feeling in your chest wasn’t something to run from… but something to get curious about?

What if that whisper of “something needs to change” is the beginning of finding your purpose?

So many women I work with feel stuck in this in-between place. They’re tired of surviving on autopilot, but scared to make the leap. That’s where re-framing comes in:

  • Instead of “I don’t know what I’m doing,” try: “I’m learning to trust myself.”
  • Instead of “I’m scared of failing,” try: “I’m open to discovering what’s possible.”

Small mindset shifts. Big impact. When you are choosing to change the way you talk to yourself, you are choosing to change your whole outlook. You are starting to erode the negative bias too!
